External Morphology Characteristics

The Erebia stirius population from Croatia has a small wingspan (21-24 mm). In males, the underside of the hindwing is in uniform dark brown color. There is a smaller dark spot in the apex. The spot has two small white dots which are sometimes absent in males.

Behavior

Imago feeds with nectar of the flowers on the rocks.

Caterpillar Host Plants

Family Poaceae, probably Sesleria caerulea.

Habitat

Rocky slopes. Elevations: >1000m.
